Saturn

Concept, Branding, Mobile UX/UI

In this month-long project for the Google UX Design Program, I worked as UX researcher & UX designer through each step of the design thinking process: researching & empathizing, defining, ideation, prototyping, testing, and visual design.

I created a dedicated mobile banking app: “Saturn”, a primary source of banking services for users who may not have access to physical bank locations. Features range from new account selection & opening to general account management.

The Problem

Some bank users experience obstacles when it comes to being able to open accounts and perform banking services that require in-branch visits. Physical location, physical disabilities, and personal preferences shape this obstacle.

”How can I create a banking app that allows consumers to open accounts and manage their banking needs from the convenience of their homes, or wherever they may be?”

The Solution

Create a user-friendly, intuitive & appealing mobile app that gives users access to bank account creation and management at their fingertips.

Defining

Creating Problem Statements from User Personas

John Denver is a busy small business owner running a coffee shop, who needs a one-stop banking app to toggle between his business & personal accounts. He likes to handle things immediately as they come up in both his work & personal life.

Ruby Park is a first-generation, non-English-speaking mother who needs a way to simply transfer money from her bank account to her children’s. She prefers to access banking services at home due to a physical disability.

Ahmad Jamal is an undergraduate design student and YouTuber who needs a seamless app experience to check bank account details and pay for things. He is on-the-go, needs accessibility anytime & anywhere, and doesn’t want to spend too much of his time handling finances.

Creating Hypotheses from Problem Statements

If John Denver has a banking app that contains both his business & personal accounts, then he’ll be able to toggle between the two seamlessly and handle matters regarding both in one place.

If Ruby Park has a simple, easy-to-understand & navigate mobile banking app, then she can perform money transfers easily and immediately, as needed, from her home.

If Ahmad Jamal has a quick, smooth & efficient banking app that contains his account details at-a-glance, then he can access his financial details on-the-go, anywhere, and maximize the time that he can spend doing other things.

Goal Statement

Our Saturn banking app will allow users to seamlessly open accounts, access account details at-a-glance, and perform basic banking transactions.

This will positively affect bank users who are unable or prefer not to utilize an in-person branch, due to limitations such as time, competing priorities, or physical disabilities. They will be able to use banking services at their convenience, anytime & anywhere, suiting their lifestyle and preferences.

We will measure effectiveness by performing visitor exit surveys in-app and reading user reviews.
